Why should I keep the Sabbath Day Holy?

0

We praise God for all He has done for us. He by His wisdom created the Sabbath day for us to rest. He knew we would need it. We want to look at the meaning of the Sabbath rest to God’s people as taught by this text.

The Sabbath is a sign of freedom from slavery. One of the reasons God brought Israelites out of Egypt the land of bondage is that they worship Him (Deut. 5:15). In our world of sin the Sabbath does signify freedom from bondage (Gal 5:1 and John 8:31-36).

The Sabbath is a sign of God’s power to save and deliver; delivery of Israelites from Egypt (Exodus 20:1) and our deliverance and salvation from the slavery of sin (Col 1:12-14).

It is also a sign of our obedience to God. The Israelite obeyed God and they were saved to go and serve Him. God has commanded to keep that the Sabbath Day Holy (Heb 4:9).

Insight

Did you think at anytime that you were keeping the Sabbath day as a means of salvation and deliverance from the power and consequences of sin? Sorry if so. The Sabbath is a sign of a redeemed, forgiven and saved soul. It tells us that God in Christ Jesus has already done it. He has already saved us. To the Israelites, the Sabbath meant a sign of deliverance from the bitter painful life in Egypt. To us, the Sabbath signifies a perfect completed redemption on the cross. Therefore, it we are saved by grace, then the Sabbath day is our real Biblical, right way to praise God.
