In the article, three definitions of the truth we learnt that the devil is the master of all lies. In this article, we will learn about six common lies the devil deploys to destroy people. The devil is an enemy of humanity. His intentions are to destroy us physically, mentally and emotionally. You may agree with me that these are challenges around which our lives revolve and so there is a need to overcome them.
LIE 1: The ultimate path to happiness is to acquire material possessions
Mark 8-36 – What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the world and lose his own soul? The devil is doing everything within reach to focus our attention away from God. May be I should begin by asking you a question. How many people do you know have obtained happiness by acquiring material possessions? There is a struggle in our society to acquire wealth, power and status. These things are important but the Devil wants you to believe that obtaining them will bring you ultimate happiness and completeness. This is deceit in its true colors. Whatever we acquire in this world is only temporal. The desire of our God is to seek Him first, and place our faith, hope and trust in Him. Mat 6:33 – … seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
LIE 2: Hell Doesn’t Exist
The devil wants you to believe that there is no hell. Let us find out the truth from the word of God. Mathew 10:28 – And fear not them which kill the body, but re not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. By wanting us believe there is no hell, the devil puts us in a mental place to accept living a life of sin. This is a move to separate us from God. Hell is as real as Heaven is. It is preserved for the devil, his angels and the wicked. The devil rebelled from heaven and was thrown to this world. He knows his fate and wants us to perish with him. God is love. He has done and is doing everything to save us. For how long shall you reject His voice?
LIE 3: The Church is a Structure, Not a Body of Believers
When I was growing up, I understood the church as a physical structure where people meet to worship God. Was I right? Many people in the world understand the church as a structure. There is an appeal in the book of Acts 20:28 to leaders to feed the church of God which he purchased with his own blood. Even from a layman’s view the implication here is not to some building but to believers. The church is an assembly of believers. So, the root of the word is not of a building, but of a people. If you believe the church is just a building, not a body of believers, this could hinder you from sharing God’s love and message with others.
LIE 4: He is More Powerful than God
By making you believe that he is stronger than God, the devil wants us to lean on your own understanding, not God’s. This is dangerous. Instead of talking to God and trusting that all things are possible through Him, the devil seeks to influence us to listen to his voice of stress, addiction, confusion and depression. In the end, we lose sight of our God and give in to the deceptions of the devil. God is all-powerful and there is nobody that can be like Him, the Devil will never ever be powerful than God – NEVER.
LIE 5: God does not care about us
Satan wants us to think God hates us. We all face lowest and darkest moments in life. This is the best moment the devil brings this lie that God does not care about us. The Devil wants you to believe that God doesn’t love you because if He did, he wouldn’t put you in that situation. The truth of the matter is that God has good plans for us, even if we don’t always understand it. God always has your best interests at hand, plans to prosper you and not harm you – Proverbs 29:11.
LIE 6: There’s No Life After Death
What again! There is no life after death? Oops! This lie makes me sick. It is unfortunate that many people believe that when we die, that is all. Nothing else. The Devil wants you to believe our earthly life is all there is. This lie that there is no life after death makes people believe that it is needless to do good; they resort to pleasures of this world. The devils tells us, there’s no need to concern ourselves with God or life after death because that doesn’t exist either. God promises eternal life and salvation for those who believe – John 3:16.
Remember, we are only safe at the feet of Jesus.
